As with humans, dental health can play an important role in your pet’s general overall health and well-being. Dental disease can lead to many health issues other than bad breath, mouth discomfort, and difficulty eating. Untreated, periodontal disease can lead to systemic infection which can cause damage to other organs and can lead to heart disease. Our dentals are performed under general anesthesia which allows us to fully examine all areas of the mouth and teeth. We use an ultrasonic scaler to fully remove plaque and tartar, including under the gum line. Teeth are evaluated for looseness and decay, and any necessary extractions are performed. Pain medication and antibiotics may be prescribed if necessary.
